Kokrajhar: In a major leap for communication in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated a 10-kilowatt FM transmitter of All India Radio (AIR) in Kokrajhar. The initiative, part of the Central government’s vision to bridge communication gaps in remote areas, promises improved access to information, education, and entertainment.
The virtual launch, held from Guwahati, was complemented by a local celebration at Kokrajhar Science College. Dignitaries, including BTR Chief Pramod Boro, Kokrajhar MP Jayanta Basumatary, and Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, were present. Addressing attendees, Pramod Boro expressed gratitude for the project and highlighted its potential to preserve Bodo culture while fostering stronger communication between citizens and the government.
“This transmitter will bring Kokrajhar closer to the rest of the nation, offering a reliable platform for information and cultural exchange,” Boro said.
Minister Vaishnaw underscored the transmitter’s role in delivering quality broadcasts to previously underserved areas, reiterating the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
Covering Kokrajhar and its neighboring regions, the transmitter will broadcast clear, high-quality content, bridging rural and urban information divides. Seen as a game-changer for regional media, the initiative strengthens Kokrajhar’s position in the national communication network while empowering local communities through accessible and reliable media services.
This move reflects the government’s broader efforts to integrate remote areas into the country’s communication framework and empower communities with modern broadcasting infrastructure.
